“Tawid Buhay” Print Sale
We are selling editions of Auggie Fontanilla’s “Tawid Buhay” prints.
Presented in ‘Sometimes, the Heart Yearns for Bananas’ at Te Tuhi, these prints have travelled all the way from the Philippines, made by Auggie Fontanilla. These are repurposed flour sacks printed with a design reminiscent of cultural crops from the Philippines. These crops and food carry a multitude of migration stories from the Filipino and ethnic diaspora and has become the centre of our work for this exhibition and its accompanied workshops.
Tawid buhay is a concept that embodies the struggle of Filipino migrant workers who travel or go abroad to earn a living or for a better quality of life.
